Showing Moved Files
Hi everyone,

In a directory I have files with various extensions. I would like to move all the files ending in .L2 into a directory: ~/test. But I would also like to show which files are being moved. Of course I could type:

$ ls *.L2
$ mv *.L2 ~/test

Is there a way I can combine these two commands into one line of code?

Use the -v (verbose) option:

mv -v *.L2 ~/test

In case your mv doesnt have -v option:
ls *.L2 | while read TOMV;do echo "moving "$TOMV;mv $TOMV ~/test/.

And the ls is Useless; not only is it wasteful, but it will produce wrong and/or unexpected results with unusual file names and if there is a directory matching that wildcard. Just use the wildcard itself and let go of ls

for TOMV in *.L2; do
  echo moving "$TOMV"
  mv "$TOMV" ~/test/
done
