overlapping words on command line

You might try setting different terminal modes ie. check your current 1st

echo $TERM

and then try some others and see if they behave better

... for example.

can anyone tell me how can i change value of ROWS and COLUMNS?

export ROWS=34
export COLUMN=200


i tried as given above but not working.......

stty rows 66 cols 66
will set the rows and columns.
What terminal emualtor are you using? On xterm hit control and the middle button to see if Auto Wraparound is enabled On a gnome terminal you want to make sure Scroll on keystroke is enabled.
