MD5 missmatch

I think it's a problem of gtar, but i'm note sure...

I use gtar to create an archive from a directory
then i use md5 to get an md5 string for the archive
bzip2 to compress the archive
and md5 again for the compressed archive.

I send the file to my backup machine.

When i download the file again, i want to be sure nothing has happened to my backup file, so i check with md5 for the bzipped file, and i got the same bz5 as when i created the bzip.
I bunzip the file, and check that the tar-file has the same md5 string as when i created the archive, but it is different strings.

I think this is due to gtar that does not preserve the date from when the archive was created. But i can o f course be completely wrong.

Can anybody give me a hint to why i have different md5 strings for the same file? And if i don't ask for too much, a solution to my problem?
Thanks! =)

Never mind!
I should go to sleep.
I'm comparing the md5 from the bzip file with the md5 from the tar archive!
