Using contents of a file in a command?
I have a value in a file called tmp.lst: 1314



Now, what I want to do is use ksh to take that value and do an ls in a directory using the contents of that file. For example, I want the command I run to be:


ls *1314*



and then I want to put that result into a file tmp1 or something like that. Can anyone help me out?

ls *`cat temp.lst`*

Notice that those are backticks (ASCII 96), not regular apostrophes. Modern shells also allow you to use $(cat temp.lst) instead of backticks.
