Question Boot error

Hi,

I'm getting this error when booting:

" Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet"

I got no idea what has been done to get it when the machine use to work fine. Put a new HDD in it, and installed Solaris 7 on it fine then when it goes to boot I get that error.

It's a Sparc Station 5 with 32Mb RAM. I know Solaris 7 can run on it I've had it working fine before.

Thanks in advanced for idea's for fixing the problem.

No big problem

Hallo merlin.
The problem is due to an mistake in the OBP-Bootprom parameter.

Please enter at the OK prom OK: boot disk
Now the maschine boot witch the solaris system.
You can use eeprom command to switch the boot-device parameter to disk. The second possibility is to change this at the OK prompt
Please refer the man page.

I hope thatīs the solve of this problem.

I have encounter this problem before, Might be the same with yours. The problem was that the Sparc system was trying to boot of the net and not of the disk.

Power down and press 'L1' and 'n' simulataneously while powering up. This resets the NVRAM to factory defaults.
Here are less draconian measures and good things to check if the
system is having difficulty booting.

From the "ok" prompt (L1-a and then maybe "n" to get to it):
boot disk to boot from the disk and not the net. To make sure it always boots of the disk set the proper variable:

check boot-device
setenv boot-device disk

or

setenv boot-device disk? (where ? is a #, disk = disk0 = scsi id 3)
One person said now type "reset" after the setenv command.

Perhaps the system is in diagnostic mode:
check diag-switch? [it should respond with false]
if not:

setenv diag-switch? false
to get it out of diagnostice mode.

Also make sure the system sees the disk:
probe-scsi

To list the environment variables (good for diagnostics to see why
things are not booting:
printenv

Also make sure the environment variable:

watchdog-reboot? false

is "false" says another person.
