FTP login failing

Please help. I am running Solaris 8 trying to get my FTP to work. When I try to access the FTP server from another computer on the network, it connects and prompts for a password. The username and password I set up do not work as well as my root account. Neither of the accounts are set up in the /etc/ftpusers file and both are capable of logging into the unix box. I have checked my syslog after trying to login and nothing was written to it. I know there is probably something very simple to fix this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about Solaris but with SCO I had the same problem. I had to edit the ftpaccess file to allow any local real users adn whaa-laah!

I am using wu-ftpd which I downloaded from sunfreeware.com. I tried setting my guest user up per some instructions found on a link on their website. That didn't seem to help or make a difference. My question now is..How do you know if the in.ftpd is using the ftpaccess file in the /etc directory. I have seen references to the in.ftpd program using the -a switch to tell it to. However, doing a man on in.ftpd doesn't show the switch.

Well, I also, used 'globaddr' to specify the allowed IP address' to login via FTP, then set uucp and root in the ftpusers file, and then set the ftpaccess back to default settings, minus anonymous access. I have yet to run across in.ftp, but maybe I haven't searched deep enough or SCO doesn't provide/support it. Smilie
