Question booting from CD-ROM

I recently decided to install FreeBSD on an old 486 PC. I downloaded the iso and burnt it on my other computer. After that I went into the BIOS on the 486 to set the CD as my primary boot device.. but strangely there's no such option Smilie
And when i boot the machine the floppy drive makes some noise and i get an error message so no luck in booting from the CD.

Is there another way to boot from the CD? I have a Linux-on-a-floppy-distro laying here (HAL91), can I boot the CD-ROM in HAL91 ?

Thanks in advance
Smilie

System information:
Compaq Presario 486 @ 66MHz
12 MB RAM
425 MB hard drive
4x CDROM
No OS installed

You would need a FreeBSD boot floppy. It can be gotten off of the FTP site. There's a file in there that explain which one you'll need.

I have installed FreeBSD and OpenBSD on several old machines that do not support bootable CDs using this method...

Another alternative that is helpful if you've got a high-bandwidth connection: Install directly from the FTP site. The OpenBSD dist is fairly quick, although FreeBSD has a lot of extra stuff installed, so it may not be an option for you...
