Extract multiple files from a tar file
Hi,


I want to extract all files like dataerror* from a tar file called archive.tar

Please can anyone help me with the command? I want to extract only those files with the name starting like dataerror*

gnu tar will allow this:

tar -x --wildcards dataerror\* -f archive.tar

Note the \* which escapes the asterix from the shell so it is passed intact to tar.

If you don't have a recent version of GNU tar then the following may suffice:

FLS=`tar -t -f archive.tar |grep dataerror`; tar -x $FLS -f archive.tar
# 3

tar -xvf dataerror\* -f archive.tar

tar -cvf test.tar `find . -mtime -1 -type f` only tar 1 file
