UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

HELLO all ,

I have been trying to use a simple while loop to read a file " templist", line by line and perform an action. See the code below. The reason for not using a while read line loop is the for the use of the if condition that wouldn't work. I would appreciate some ideas as this has troubled me for a while. The trouble seems to be in the `sed -n "\$i p" templist` line since it doesn't recognize the increment. I have tried to use different quotation marks too.

Any suggestions? See the code below?

ls -d */|sed 's/\///' > templist

c=`sed -n '$=' templist`

i="0"

while [ $i -le $c ] ; do

folder=`sed -n "\$i p" templist`

cd $folder

echo "in" > test

i=$[$i+1]
