I'm not looking for more work, I need less.

You left off the .pdf extension so it's not seeing those files. Like I said, it's not hard to add it to the script if you think that's more convenient. Anyway, I think you have all the pieces you need now. (hint: test -e "$file.pdf")

cool thanks for all the help I was not trying to put more work on you I would have liked to offer you compensation for your time. It would be great to have someone with more knowledge to answer my questions on and offline.
