How can you print a line that's 132 characters in length on an 80 char wide (roughly) piece of paper?

Have you tried printing landscape?

I ran into the same issue as the person in that post over a year ago and it turns out that all I had to do before I ftp/attach my reports for my business users from unix was to rename it to something windows recognized..like .txt or .wri, etc. It worked for me and save me lots of headaches.

And I found this out prior to seeing this FAQ so I worked on it a long time and discovered the same thing.

It worked but I never knew why...maybe this is not what you're looking for but it's good enough to share it.

The main issue seems to be that the text document does not hold any formatting info so whatever the default setup is on any of the windows based editors you use will result in the document being reformatted.

For example if Wordpad is set up by default to be in courier new font size 10 and print in portrait mode then when the e-mailed text file is loaded into it the document is formatted in courier new font size 10 portrait mode.

This seems to apply even if you make changes to the settings and save the document from wordpad. Notepad has less flexibility.

I suppose there may be a way to embed MS Word format commands in the text document to make this functional but I am not aware of how to do that.
