Question How to execute Ifconfig without being root???

Hi,
I want to be able to execute an 'ifconfig le0 dhcp ' command without being logged as root...How can I make this?
I'm working on solaris 7 and I try to give the same rights as root to another operator using admintool but my new user can't execute the command...snifff

Of course, the most easy way to do this would be to chmod /sbin/ifconfig (this is the path on OpenBSD 3.0, not sure about Solaris, but a 'find' should help you) to 0755 or something similar - but I wouldn't recommend this, as every user on your machine would be able to do this.

*BSD systems provide a very useful program called 'sudo' - is that available on Solaris, too? This would help you to allow only certain users access to ifconfig.

HTH,

MySQL Thanks!

I install a version for solaris of sudo (found in sunfreeware site) and it does exactly what I wanted...Thanks again!

You're welcome. Just be sure to take some time to properly configure your sudoers file.
