piping inside eval

Hi guys, I am writing an script using the csh and in my script and i have a line command with pipes inside eval, the command line look like this

set var3=(eval grep -w "$var1" textfile.txt | grep -w "$var2" | cut -c4-11)

And I notice that it only executes the first grep and it doesn't execute the rest of the commands, it looks like the pipe is not working and the rest of the commands aren't being executed.

Can every one tell my why and how to fix it?

Thank you

I'm not sure about csh, but in bash, surrounding some commands with $() allow you to use the output in a variable or whatever.

For example, this (pointless) set of commands should work:

Code:
VAR=$(cat file.txt | sort | cut -f 2 | tail)
echo $VAR
