If you use LDAP then the /etc/nsswitch.conf should reflect that first for the passwd line and the /etc/passwd file should not contain local entries except for root or other locally required accounts like nobody, uucp, bin, etc..

Login and run:
echo $SHELL

If you are using bash then check the environment file orders. The .profile file is reference last to be backward compat with ksh and sh. The file .bash_profile is looked for first at login and .bashrc is read when the shell or a new subshell is invoked. If .bash_profile exists then .profile is not being read.

/etc/profile
~/.bash_profile
~/.bash_login
~/.profile
# 9

I have changed the .bash_profile and now it works.

i vi .profile Set DATE `date +%m%d%Y%H%M`, but after logout/login, echo $DATE, it shows: Fri Mar 23 15:01:53 EDT 2012, i want to show: 032320121501 please ignore. vi /etc/profile, and export DATE=`date +%m%d%Y%H%M`, worked fine now. (0 Replies)

All, I had a request to delete filed under a directory that was 35 days old . And they asked me to scedule it in CRON . I have done that . I have use find and delete with mtime to perfrom this task . But my script is not deleting this .cshrc,.exrc,.login,.profile,.sh_history file... (1 Reply)
