Application/program logging

Hi. Knowing very little about Unix I've been asked to find out if there is a log or something similar available in Unix that can help track down which application/programs are being used, with the aim of identifying installed applications or programs that are NO longer being used. Any input to this is highly appreciated. TIA

This will very much depend on the OS type, certain autid programs may have been started, or may not, also, log files are available in different places, users' history as well.

Thx sysgate. As I already said, I'm not a Unix person so could you elaborate a bit on what type of logs that might be available and where to find them. I believe we are talking about HP-UNIX here if that helps. Thanks again.

I'm not really familiar with HPUX, but log files for certain events are usually located at /var/log/ folder or /var/adm if present on HPUX. There are more experienced people in this forum when it comes to HPUX, so I hope that someone else will also share thoughts on this.
