Creating a new account

Hi

How do I create a new account with a specific group and home directory specified?

TIA

You can use the following command to create a user:

useradd -d <homedir> -g <groupID> -s <shell> -m USERNAME

So for example:

useradd -d /home/foo -g 1001 -s /bin/bash -m foo

Err, also you can specify -p '<password>' if you'd like in with the other options but then you need to know the crypt(3) version of the password. Otherwise it'll just create the account without a password and you can log in and use the passwd utility.
