Yes, look at the syslog files to see what error messages from the lp systems are logging. If you need more verbose error information look at the man page for your lpscheduler and find out how to increase the logging level.
The best way I know of to hunt errors and causes of errors is to rely on the logging facilities. You should be able to find out how your system logs for your lpscheduler and mine the logs for clues.
