Question Multiboot problem Help plz??

I have installed Win98 OS .......1st
then RH7.2

with GRUB bootloader okay

i.e in the Grub there is two choices 1-Linux
2-Dos

also I install bootloader of linux in MBR -master boot record-

when select Linux an error :

root(hd0,1)
File system type is ext2fs parttion type 0x38....
kernal/vmlinuz-2.4.7-10 ro root=/dev/hda5
Error 18:selected cylinder exceeds maximum supprot by Bios...

then booting normally without an error?????

by searching I found this

> grub> root (hd0,
> Possible partitions are:
> Partition num: 0, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
> Partition num: 4, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
> Partition num: 5, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
> > grub> root (hd0,0)
> Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
> > grub> setup (hd0,0)
> Run "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0,0) /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 p /boot/grub/
> stage2"

Please tell us what you think might be related. What's the geometry?
Which mode does GRUB use, LBA or CHS? etc.

> > The exact message is necessary.
> It was an ERR_GEOM "Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS"

Then the error message already told you what's the cause. Your BIOS
cannot access the whole partition because of the maximum cylinder
limitation. Haven't you turned on LBA support?

Okuji

The Q?????is How to change to LBA mode or support ????Atiato

You have to do this via your BIOS. As your machine boots up, before it reaches GRUB, it should tell you which key to press to interrupt and access your BIOS / CMOS / setup.

It depends on each BIOS, but poke around a little. Make sure to to write down what you did in case you have to go back and undo it!

Look in where your do your drive setup... It may specify your geometry, or it may be set to "auto", or something similar. It should be in the drive settings screen, though.

Hammer & Screwdriver multiple boot

Hi there this might help u solve ur problem on multi boot

We have that problem before what we saw is linux cant read fat32 filesystem for some reason ,so what we did is change the partition of win98 to fat16.And now system boots up .
This is for redhat 7.0 i'm not sure if they corrected that problem at the new version , but its worth a shot .Coz ours still workin .....
Also when u partition make sure u got 2 partition at ur hard drive one is fat16 for win98 and the rest will be ur linux .

Second is u can use a third party multiboot os SYSTEM COMMANDER we tried this also it works well .

Whoah... I wouldn't ever cripple one OS to make another boot.
Personally, I would not mess with your FAT32 partitions.

This is a problem with your BIOS. This happens more and more because of large disks. Are you using a large disk? I'd be willing to bet that your boot partition lies somewhere around the 8 gig line...

In that case, you should be able to remove grub, and normally boot into Windows. When you want to use Linux, simply use a bootdisk.

Another cheap fix might be to use a tool such as EZBIOS, which is basically a software patch that will remap a partition that the BIOS cannot initially see to a closer location long enough for the machine to boot.
