Try

Code:
scp -r remote-user@remote-host:/start-directory /local/target/directory

However if it is a large website, I recommand tarring and gzipping the whole website on the remote box then

(a) transferring that single file and unpacking it

(b) save that single file as an archive/backup of the site

Have you stopped the apache?

So you are trying to install Apache? Do you need to build it from scratch or can you not use a binary package?

i'm following the step by step:

it says:

configure $./configure --prefix=prefix

compile $ make

install $ make install

customize $ vi prefix/conf/httpd.conf

test $ prefix/bin/apachectl start

thats all it says, i'm having a problem with the configure and how to set it up

Who's step by step?

What operating system are you using? And were you not able to install a prebuilt Apache2?
