UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi, I am using putty to connect to a linux machine.

hmm, this is a little difficult to explain...

Whenever I type something which is more than a line, then instead of going to the start of next line.. the cursor goes back to the start of current line and overwrites it. The display gets all messed up..

I have attached a screen shot of the display so that you get an ides of what I am talking about. The screen shot shows 2 putty terminals, one maximized and the other is minimized.

Any idea what might be going on?

I am using bash

Such is life, I don't worry about it. As long as the shell knows what you typed even though you can't see it.

If you are dealing with a very long command line it is often worth putting it in a temporary script, and break it up with "\".

My putty works happily....

In terminal I have

thanks porter, I have the same putty setting.. but still no luck :-|
