Main UNIX file?

I am restoring data off of a backup tape onto a server I have.
The data is coming from an old server I used to have, different IP and different Name.

I want to transfer ALL the data from the tape, but yet not have any of my unix network configurations or name settings (on the server itself) to change to that server that the data is originally coming from.

The version is Unix SCO 5.0.5.
I was thinking to restore ALL the data except the file or directory that houses this type of information. Except, I do not know which file or directory that would be located in.

Is there any other way of going about doing this without changing the current restore software or current server settings I have setup?

Does anyone know where this file, if it DOES exsist - is located?

Thanks!!

There is not just one "main file" on a UNIX box. The closest is probably vmunix. There are literally hundreds of files which contain system-specific information.

The easiest way is to complete your full restore. Then you'll really only need to change I.P. and hostname - SCOADMIN is easiest way to do this.

You'll also need to make a few changes to /etc/hosts to reflect your new hostname and verify routing info is correct.

your answer is something i also thought about, i think i will go this route.
can you please tell me what commands I will need to use and what to edit to reflect the correct host name, IP Address, and network configurations?
