My network card wasn't recognised

HI

I'm using red hat 7.0 and i've tried to find my network card, because it wasn't recognised at install time.

I issued this commands "modprobe ne" and "modprobe 3c59x"
and i got the message
/lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net/ne.0: insmod failed.

At this point i suppose to get this " alias eth0 ne # or 3c59x"wright?
instead the one above that i've just mentioned.

And i left this just like that.

Now later on i did open "netcfg" and on the interfaces windows it says that "eth0 192*** * * inactive"
when i try to activate, still came up with this " same as the above"

any sugestion please

best regards.

Rebuild the kernel with the proper network card enabled. After building the kernel, build the modules. Install both the kernel and the modules. That's it in a nutshell.

A 3com 3c59x card /should/ have been detected during install by Redhat 7. Are you certain the card is functional? If you've modified your kernel in anyway, make sure you have the vortex/boomerang driver installed, as Neo said. Here's a detailed link to all things Linux and 3com NICs Smilie
