easy question
Hi everybody:

Could anybody tell me if I have several files which each one it has this pattern name:

Code:
name1.dat  name2.dat name3.dat name4.dat name10.dat name11.dat name30.dat

If I would like create one like:

Code:
name_total.dat

If I do:

Code:
paste name*.dat > name_total.dat

the paste command paste them in order, this is 1-2-3-4-10-11-30

I tried youre code like (in my case):

for i in dn_rad_flux*.dat
	do
		cat $i >> dn_rd.dat
	done

I have a new file called dn_rd.rad, but I have all the files in one column, and I would like that when bucle works, each time the "cat" do it in columns. Then I did the same but with paste command like this:

for i in dn_rad_flux*.dat
	do
		paste $i >> dn_rd.dat
	done

And I have the same output. Do you know how solve it.

With zsh:

Code:
cat *.dat(n)>name_total.dat

otherwise (assuming the string "name" is always 4 characters):

Code:
(IFS=$'\n';cat $(printf "%s\n" *dat|sort -k1.5n)>name_total.dat)

Thanks again. It works, but I would like that each file which has one unique column, would paste in columns not all in one column.
This is, your code make:

Code:
file1
file2
file3
...

and I would like something like this:

Code:
file1 file2 file3 ....
