Question about "grep"
Hi, my question is how would I come about in finding certain characters (i.e. letters) in a text file using the "grep" command?

to look for the letter "a" use

grep "a" text-file-name

Ok, but let's say I have a book. I'm trying to find every 9 letter word that has c as the first letter and r as the fourth letter. How would I do this?

Sounds like a job for "awk".

What is "awk" ?? I thought "grep" would do it.

open a file with vi editor and search as follows

How would I approach this using command prompt and using the "grep" command?
