UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I have a comma delimited file which also contains commas in the text. I was wondering how I can combine one whole column of that file with another file. In essence I'm trying to do an excel vlookup in UNIX to return the information from one column in the comma delimited file(containing text commas also) to the corresponding column in the other file.

I have some UNIX experience but it is not extensive, what is the easiest way to accomplish this?

The way to do this is the Join command (files must be sorted first in column join order).

I would go out of my way to avoid using join.

But do a "man join" to see what it says.
