FTP Permissions

Hi Guys,

I am trying to grant FTP acccess to my server for a WebDesigner to be able to upload live and see how it looks online.

I created a new user (WebDes:tomcatUsers) and created his home dir as /var/lib/tomcat5/webapps/uPhoto/ and then made sure he CHROOT's to his home dir so he only see's that Smilie

I set the permissions to 774 so he could write to it but he can only connect when he FTP's in, when i se the permissons to 775 then it works fine..

The files are owned by tomcat5:tomcatusers so this should be correct right?

Any ideas?

The difference between 774 and 775 when applied to a directory is the addition of the ability to search a directory by users in the 'other' category.
Without the ability to search the directory, the ls command at least will not work. Most Windows based ftp clients automatically issue an ls in order to display the contents of the server's directory.
