you need to give us more information about the file.

What is the type of file ?

Is that a delimited file.
If so, what is the delimiter.

If thats some other file which needs to be processed and then to load into excel sheet.

perl modules to read / write / update excel file is readily available.

Excel file can be created from the source file and then transferred to windows

The file in unix can be of any file.
Take it as .txt file.
The file has (,) as a delimiter. if there is no delimiter, then it should populate the datas in a single row.
The file is just a .txt file. no other processing is there.

this seems to be pretty straight forward to me

transfer the file in bin mode from unix/linux system to windows

and open the file, specify the delimiter

and your file should be ready in excel

hi, i like to have a shortcut of an excel file. if we double-click it and open, the .txt file in the unix server should open in that excel.
can u please give me more eloborate answer???
