Your requirement is more like a one-liner which I find it difficult to guess what needs to be done.

Ok; sorry about that.
Here's the script, if you look at it, how can i make the fields below has a limit on the characters, in other word, let's say i want to make the characters in field 1 limited to 15 characters so i can control the the length

mFld1=`echo $mLine | cut -d'|' -f1`
mFld2=`echo $mLine | cut -d'|' -f2`

I think basically you are looking for defined length values
