Matrix,
The original post was to print the 5th character in each line.
The best and optimized solution is the 'cut -c5' from Ermur.

Your solution does not print the 5th character only -- it prints everything
else after the 5th character.

To correct your solution:

I just concentrated on the extraction of the last character.
