UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi,

I have a SCO Openserver 5.0.5 server running RAID5 on the hp NETRAID-1M controller and it works just fine.

However, I cannot add a tape drive in. The standard SCSI card is a Symbios and I am using the 'slha' driver, but the system doesnt see the adaptor at SCO startup. The adaptor and the tape drive are seen during the SCSI scan...

Any thought would be bery greatly appreciated..

Let me understand your setup. You currently have a SCO Openserver box running RAID5 on an HP raid scsi controller card. You have added another scsi controller card just to control the tape drive. You boot the server and during boot up the HP server see's the added scsi card and tape drive.

By chance.. did you run the command mkdev tape ? To add the tape drive into the kernel? If you didn't, then you must log in as root and add the tape drive into the kernel using the mkdev tape command.

You will be asked whether you want to rebuild the kernel, answer YES to this question. You will also be asked whether you want to rebuild the kernel environment, also answer YES. Once the kernel has been rebuilt, you must reboot the server for the new kernel to take effect.
