Installing HP-UX 11i Version 1 May 2005
Hi,

I'm real novice as far as unix goes, I've been asked to help out and install HP UX on a HP RP3440 server. I have been given the CDs and a procedure. I've also been told that the CDs with the s/w is a bit old and will need to be updated. Once I have installed it, how can I verify what I need to install to for e.g. bring it up to update. The HP web site lists HP-UX 11i version 2 and version 3. what steps do I need to take to install version 2 and version 3. etc.....any help in describing this would be most appreciated.

uname -a

should show you the version you have.

11.11 = 11iv1
11.23 = 11iv2
11.31 = 11iv3

The topic says "HP-UX 11i Version 1 May 2005", so you are on 11iv1.
If you want to install 11iv2 or 11iv3, get the installation media for it.
You cannot achieve a higher release by patches.
