Slow from static IP ... fast from NAT address

Has anyone had an issue where:

If I telnet into a unix machine on my network, from within my natted address,
there is no speed issue.

When I telnet to the same machine using the static address, it is very very
slow.

This SCO 5.06. There is no nameserver running.

Please help. I have outside offices who are running very very slow.

Thank you!

Slow running or slow to open the telnet? Also how are you entering the "Natted" address?

The first thing I would do it check that the netmask on the static IP is correct.

Found out the reason behind this ... Sorry I didn't update.

It wound up that one of our "I only know Windows" guys had updated
/etc/hosts with new network IP's. However, he "accidently" took out
about 50 or so addresses. (The server does a reverse DNS lookup to
figure out who is connecting to the box and relies on the hosts file

I'm surprised I didn't think of this before as it has happened on one
previous occasion.

"I only know Windows" guy is no longer working with our SCO server.

Thanks
