non-numeric argument

quick question, I am trying to run this simple equation

expr 2048 / 2.354

but get a "expr: non-numeric argument" error when ever its run. I believe it may be caused by the decimal point but I do not know how to remedy it.

try using bc instead of expr.

For example: echo "2048 / 2.345" | bc

I don't think you want to use "expr" anyway

Because the outcome of
expr 2048 / 2354
would be 0

Using "expr", 2048 / 2354 means 2048 DIV 2354 which is 0.

Code:
echo "scale=6;2048 / 2.345" | bc
