Based on this definition an FTP server could be considered a file server. So I'll retract my previous statement. What I should have said was FTPing is probably not the most ideal solution. Using a file server application such as Samba would be a more ideal choice for this scenario.

When you open a file on a fileserver from your client, what type of operation takes place on the server? I imagine the server's hard drive reads the file that the client has requested, and then makes it available somehow through the network share, is that accurate? Also what service on Unix/Linux...
