ssh: more newbness

How can I allow others to ssh into my machine?

My PC is on a network here at school. I am running SuSE 10.2 I can ssh into the lab computers by using the command:

ssh -l "username" -X "computername"

How can I allow others to ssh into my machine? Here are the steps I've taken so far:

- I have created user accounts through User Management in Yast
- I have added ssh to the allowed services on the Yast 'external zone' firewall

What next?

Is sshd (SSH daemon) up and running? check this... if not start it. If that is all done you should be able to connect to your machine using ssh.

I am 100 % new and have a severe lack of knowledge of how to do things on linux. How exactly can I check the sshd and get it up and running if it is not?

Thanks Again!

to check if it's running :
Code:
ps -ef|grep sshd

If not, become root and edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config to allow connections.
or as root :
Code:
/etc/init.d/sshd status

if it's not up, replace status with start.

Great, thanks so much! It seems to be up and running. Now let's say that I am a user on a different machine. What would they have to do to get on to my computer? We tried ssh -l "username" -X "IP address". Perhaps I am using the wrong IP? How would I find the right one?

execute: ps -ef| grep sshd

This should return at least something like:
root 4972 1 0 14:53 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/sshd

If this is the case you have sshd running. If not you have to install it.
