Noexec_user_stack question

If i change my /etc/system file and add these 2 lines does the server need to be restarted for them to be in effect?

set noexec_user_stack=1
set noexec_user_stack_log=1

can i pkill - HUP system?
or restart is manditory?

Yeah you need to reboot to make the change to /etc/system effective. I'm not sure what process you think "pkill -HUP system" will nail, but you need to restart the kernel. If a reboot is a real hardship and you really need this change immediately, there is another procedure to alter the running kernel. I think it is a little dangerous though and a reboot is safer. Either way you will need the change to /etc/system to make sure the change survives future reboots.

Well i know pkill -HUP inetd will reload the inetd.conf file i thought maybe that kernel config file was something similar... =/ guess not

you have a link on how to alter kernel without a restart? I have a test server i'd like to try it on just incase i ever need to makes changes without a restart...
