UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I am trying to backup system files on to another unix server before patching a sun solaris machine and also install software from another machine. (e.g. backups of smpt9 to smpl14) to do this:

I have logged on to smpl14 and
/mnt
mkdir smpt9
chmod 777 smpt9
when I type 'dfshares'
I can see smpt9 created on smpl14.

I cant work out the next step. Do I need to make entries on vfstab? Do I need to create similar dir on smpl14?

you have to edit /etc/dfs/dfstab (there is an example inside the file). after sharing an directory you can go to the nfs-automounter-directory on the other machine.

"cd /net/ip_of_share_server/"

there you go.....
