This post should explain the /dev/null thing. I wondered the same thing until reborg posted his response.

Nice. I'll add an explanation here too in the (unlikely) event of someone searching for this.

Grep shows different behaviour when multiple filenames are supplied as arguments than when a single filename is sent in. If multiple filenames are supplied, grep includes the filename in the output along with the matching lines. Supplying /dev/null in the find gives grep a second file to search in (along with the actual file in {}). This causes the filename to be printed along with the matching line.
