How to prepare HDD for Installation of Solaris

Hi All,

I need some advice on dual booting a dell box so that I can have WinXP and Solaris 10 OS there. The question is, what is the best way of preparing the hdd for prior to installation?

I have used created two partition, one for xp and the and the other unallocated partition for Solaris. The problem am encountering is that whenever the solaris installation is taking place its showing tha the unallocated partion is formatted for ntfs. How can I format this partition so that its compatible with Solaris.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you don't need to, just get the solaris installer to delete this partition and recreate the partitions it needs.

First of all thanks for your reply. Secondly, how would you get the installer to delete and recreate the partition it needs? There are no options for this when the installation starts via the DVD media.

After the installation, when i try to manage a disk i get a message which says ''the disk does not contais a fdisk partition. The disk cannot be managed until solaris Fdisk partitioin is created. Creating this Fdisk partition will destroy any existing data''. If I click on the icon to create the Fdisk partition the system just hangs indefinitely.

What can I work around this?

I don't remember the x86/x64 installation very well. I'll try on a spare machine and post back in a few hour if nobody else has already answered.
