can you please correct the below...
validate that you can ftp connect from the command line first - given your credentials stored in the $USERNAME and the $PASSWORD variables.

then make sure you copy/paste exactly the content of your script - no extra spaces before 'EOF' and single-quoted var assignments:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#
USERNAME='.gg900079.irock.symbosis'
PASSWORD='hello!23'
ftp -in novellftp <<EOF
user $USERNAME $PASSWORD
bin
cd //stecnv16/data/shared/public2/gui/webhelp
mget help.zip
bye
EOF

Hi

#!/bin/sh
#
USERNAME=.gg900079.rmbook.tech
PASSWORD=hello!23
ftp -i novellftp <<EOF
user $USERNAME $PASSWORD
bin
cd //stecnv16/data/shared/public2/gui/webhelp
mget help.zip
bye
EOF

when i run the above, it is asking as below
/home/cvs ->ftp.sh
Password:Name (novellftp:g_gopala): <and here when i enter some input it is not taking any input> when i click enter i see the below
/home/cvs ->ftp.sh
Password:Name (novellftp:g_gopala):

once again...... validate that you can do everything you want in the script from the shell command prompt FIRST.

Then look at my last posting for changes to the script.
