Question no screen output
I'm a newbie.
I'm having a problem at work with a script. What i'm trying to do is connect to a cisco switch from a sun station. After i run the script and telnet into the switch i don't get any output on the "xterm window" and all my commands from the script don't show up on the screen or on the saved file. If i hit the return on the keyboard those carriage returns show up in the file saved. It's also a pain to get out of the telnet session. Smilie Are my commands not showing up because i'm leaving the sun station and the script connection is lost?
Here's my script:

#!/bin/ksh
telnet $switch_ip $port >saved_file
pause 2 or sleep 2 <---- i don't remember.

#I've typed these below and nothing shows up when the file is saved.
type "type\n"
send "send\n"
sende "sende\n"
print "print\n"
echo "echo\n"

Is it possible to split the screen and show, lets say a local directory listing on the left and a remote directory listing on the right with shell scripting? Suppressing output to the screen

I want to check whether the variable read from the console is number or character , so i used echo $option|grep and checked the reuslt returned by grep cmd using $? Is there a way to turn off standard output while processing is going on? I have tried redirecting to /dev/null but that is not working because some of the commands invoke a profile. I need to suppress the output to the screen. I am appending to a file so do not need the output on the screen in the CLI environment. eg. cat $HOME/somefile >> $HOME/anotherfile I am doing this a number of times with SQL output files so I can look at the finished file not on the screen in the... NAME

       Plack::Runner - plackup core

SYNOPSIS

	 # Your bootstrap script
	 use Plack::Runner;
	 my $app = sub { ... };

	 my $runner = Plack::Runner->new;
	 $runner->parse_options(@ARGV);
	 $runner->run($app);

DESCRIPTION

       Plack::Runner is the core of plackup runner script. You can create your own frontend to run your application or framework, munge command
       line options and pass that to "run" method of this class.

       "run" method does exactly the same thing as the plackup script does, but one notable addition is that you can pass a PSGI application code
       reference directly to the method, rather than via ".psgi" file path or with "-e" switch. This would be useful if you want to make an
       installable PSGI application.

       Also, when "-h" or "--help" switch is passed, the usage text is automatically extracted from your own script using Pod::Usage.

NOTES

       Do not directly call this module from your ".psgi", since that makes your PSGI application unnecessarily depend on plackup and won't run
       other backends like Plack::Handler::Apache2 or mod_psgi.

       If you really want to make your ".psgi" runnable as a standalone script, you can do this:

	 my $app = sub { ... };

	 unless (caller) {
	     require Plack::Runner;
	     my $runner = Plack::Runner->new;
	     $runner->parse_options(@ARGV);
	     return $runner->run($app);
	 }

	 return $app;

       WARNING: this section used to recommend "if (__FILE__ eq $0)" but it's known to be broken since Plack 0.9971, since $0 is now always set to
       the .psgi file path even when you run it from plackup.
