FTP from Unix to Windows: Need help!

Hello everyone,

I know nothing about Unix, however, I developed a Windows VB app that takes ascii flat files and generates formatted excel reports in single or batch mode. There are about 200 reports that come off the mainframe from a unix box which I have to manually download into my Windows environment before I can run my app.

This was killing me so I asked the Unix operator if he could dump all the files onto a local sharepoint where my app was pointing to. Initially he suggested that an ftp server be enabled on sharepoint which IT immediately shot down.

Fair enough. But here's my question, is it possible for him to FTP the files directlty to my workstation without me having to install an FTP server just by porting to ip:2i with my pwd/login?

I'm just getting the run around from IT and I would really appreciate it if someone knowledgeable in this matter could advise me.

The most preferable solution would be one that does not involve installing any kind of 3rd parthy software which would take 200 years to happen by the time someone actually made a decision around here.

Thanks a lot!

is getting the files [using ftp client on windows] from the remote UNIX box an option?
Is there an ftp deamon running on a UNIX box and is the box accessible from the 'windows' network?

That might be one way to go. I could use Windows built in ftp commands to get the files. I will ask and post back. Thanks!

I should add that I just tried to telnet to my ftp port on my local ip and its closed. It shouldnt affect me getting files from Unix but unless I open it somehow they won't be Ftp'ing anything to me.

This is getting better by the minute Smilie

I was referring to files being PULLED from remote to local - NOT being PUSHED from the remote to local. [local = windows box. remote = UNIX box]
