why most of the people prefer linux nowadays y not solaris?

Hi,
Anyone plz explain me, Now most of the people prefering linux over solaris.
what are the main advantages in linux over solaris.

Advantages of linux over solaris:

1) Better hardware support -- more drivers; also not just sparc and x86, but ppc and more.
2) Better software license -- no restrictions on what you use the OS for
3) Doesn't have a tradition running decades of half-assedly supporting x86 for a brief period then withdrawing x86 support.

It's just plain easier to get, easier to find hardware for, and easier to run. Solaris makes you jump through hoops. I also happen to think linux is better, but I'll leave that to the users.

Guys, OS v's OS discussion are not allowed here.

However one of the main reasons that Solaris is not a widely chosen end-user Unix is documented here
