I've just tried both commands on a SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 box (the closest I've got I'm afraid) and things work fine when performing the restoration from a file - say /tmp/blah.cpio - unfortunately I do not have a tape device connected to any of my SCO kit to test restoration from tape.

I cannot see any reason why the cpio command should not work, as for example, the following works fine for me:
Code:
# cpio -icvd "/tmp/input/*.*" < /tmp/infile.cpio

That's about as close as I can get to emulating your specific problem.

Silly thing, but the tape is rewound?
Code:
mt -f /dev/rct0 rew
mt -f /dev/rct0 status

Cheers

No Luck yet. I got following error:

Code:
# mt -f /dev/rct0 rew
# mt -f /dev/rct0 status
mt: ERROR: Unrecognized command: status

Thanks & Regards,
Tayyab
