Question help on rsh

hi friends,
i've access to three machines mc1,mc2,mc3,on which i can log in as root.
and in order to run a simple command on a remote machine(say remote) on which i cant log in,i use a command as;
[root/mc1]# rsh remote ls
the above runs properly but if i do an ls on following it doesnt work
[root/mc1]# rsh mc2 ls
and gives the following error message
"connection refused" Smilie
so plz let me know the settings to be altered to make it work.
thanks

See, the connection refused is coming in because there isn't anything listening on the rsh port on the remote system. Check the inetd.conf file on the remote system and make sure that the line that has shell or rsh is not hashed out. If you are using Linux, you will probably have to check the /etc/xinetd.d directory for the rsh/shell file.

Make those changes and do a kill -HUP (the inetd pid).
