expr question

I am running the following

Y=05
Y=`expr $X - 1`
and I getting a result of 4. Does anyone know if there is a way to make the result 04 instead of 4?

If you're using KSH then you can define the variable using typeset.

Code:
typeset -Z2 Y=5
echo $Y
Y=`expr $Y - 1`
echo $Y

but if you're using ksh, you would probably want to use built ins rather than expr, which is much faster.

Code:
typeset -Z2 Y=5
echo $Y
(( Y -= 1 ))
echo $Y
