unicode chracter extraction

hi all,

before few months i tried to write a utility that will extract a particluar data from a file -- file is with arabic/non english words or chracters in visual Basic on Microsot Platform.
but then i realise that VB does not support regular expressions or unicde pattern searching.

i m new to unix. Now a days i m learning unix. and i planned to shift to linux platform.so i m trying to write this same utility in Unix. is it possible to write unicode base extraction ? or using unicode regular expression?

can u suggest me some links or books for study?
can anybody guide me for same?

PHP and Perl will do Unicode text processing. Of course, Unicode regexp is supported. They are platform indepedent, sort of, so you can expect Unicode text processing on Linux. But I can't speak for certain, especially with Arabic because I don't know Arabic, and I don't know if Arabic is well supported or not, but I do quite a lot of Unicode text processing with Perl with mainly Chinese and things seem to do quite well.

The best bet is you do some testing yourself. People who don't know the language can't help with your testing.

unicode problem

on some distributions UTF-32 is the default and i need to change the size of wchar_t to 2 bytes. i tried to compile it with -fwide-exec-charset=UTF-16 but it didn't help. anyone have any ideas? thanks, Akos (3 Replies)
