Masking data

How Can I mask one particular columns using some unix command?
# 2
You're going to have to be more specific.
What's a "column" in this context? Is there a language requirement? How about an example input and output?

Is this a homework problem? If so, see Homework policy on the front page.

i meant masking sensitive data before giving it to end user.

It should also be retraceable in case it comes back

Sorry if sounding pithy, but unless you give way more details and/or samples (as requested above), the only answer you can get is "use correction fluid".

How about uuencoding and rot13ing the sensitive data?
