Print row wise
Hi Help,

I have an I/p, which looks like ---

Code:
FF
GG
HH

I want the o/p to be like ---

Code:
FF GG HH

.

How we can do that?

Replace the newline for an space as per as many rows as wanted.

How many rows you want to flatten? You only show an instance of three. Is that all?

Your code doesn't work when NR=1. Could you suggest something else.

If this doesn't produce what you want, could you provide ten lines of your real input file?

You could also try:

awk 'NR>1{printf("%s ",last)}{last=$0}END{if(NR>0)print last}' input

which should work with zero or more input lines (assuming that if you input file is /dev/null, you don't want any output).

If you are running this on a Solaris/SunOS system, change awk to /usr/xpg4/bin/awk.
