USB device not recognised after re-connect

Hi all

unixware 7.1.3 I'm afraid ! I connected a usb tape drive and it was automatically recognised in the device list (sdiconfig -l) and created devices in /dev/rmt (ctape1 etc.). I could successfully read and write to the device.

Then unplugged the usb cable and plugged it back in again to the same port. This time the device is still in the device list but the entries in /dev/rmt have gone and these messages appear on the console when the usb cable is connected:

Code:
Jan 29 14:05:12  unix: T.60476-usbd1 000F2   <Drvr16>: Descriptor load failed during enumeration!
Jan 29 14:05:12  unix:
Jan 29 14:05:12  unix: WARNING:
Jan 29 14:05:12  unix: ====== ERROR #1 <Status=OK> .60476-usbd1 000F2   <Drvr16>
Jan 29 14:05:12 unix: Descriptor load failed during enumeration!
Jan 29 14:05:14  unix: 5:0,7,0: HBA          :  (usb_msto,2) USB     USB HBA
Jan 29 14:05:14  unix:   0,0,0:  TAPE         : HP      C7438A          Z U8B

I've tried re-booting the machine but still no devices. I'm guessing that the problem is related to the "Descriptor load failed during enumeration!" message. Any ideas on how to fix this problem and recreate the /dev/rmt entries ?
